About Mawson Primary School

Mawson Primary School is a dynamic learning community that equips all students with the knowledge and skills needed to achieve personal success, within a safe and caring environment. Our school is committed to maximizing student engagement in all curriculum areas, by providing stimulating learning experiences. We place particular emphasis on the mastery of Literacy and Numeracy. Positive human relationships are developed through specific teaching of human values and social skills. These values and skills assist us to acknowledge and respect diversity within our ever-changing society. We acknowledge and celebrate the contributions made by students, staff, parents, carers and the wider community to the learning environment at Mawson Primary School.

Our school was named after Sir Douglas Mawson, a famous Antarctic explorer, who discovered invaluable facts about Antarctica and contributed to the knowledge about our world. Mawson's determination and approach to life has 'taught us something about the strength of the human spirit. Our school motto is Strive to succeed.


Mawson Primary School opened in 1968 and has provided the local community with high quality education for 46 years, offering a Preschool to Year 6 program.

Our vision statement is as follows: Mawson Primary School is an inclusive, safe, well-resourced and supportive learning environment that promotes academic success for all students, assisting them to reach their potential as lifelong learners and active citizens.


Our purpose is to deliver quality education that enables students to become literate, numerate and successful.
Mawson Primary School offers:


• Purpose built Environmental Centre with specialist teacher
• Positive human relationships are developed through the explicit teaching of values and social skills
• Designated Mandarin language learning classrooms for our bilingual and LOTE programs
• Spacious classrooms, with interactive whiteboards, wireless connection and students have access to IWBs,
• Academy of Science’s Primary Connections program and winning entries in the annual ACT Science Fair
• Instrumental Music Program-Recorder Band for years 4 &5 with specialist music teacher
• Guitar and ukulele music programs for years 3 to 6
• Participation by years 3-6 in ACT Rostrum Competition
• Interschool sporting opportunities such as AFL, cricket and touch football.
• Bilingual, Chinese/ English, private childcare facility for children from birth to 5 years of age is located within school grounds
