Year 4 Science Lesson. Flowering Plant Life Cycle and Field Trip (Part 2)

The life cycle of a flowering plant.

• Discuss the purpose of the flower for a plant. Discuss, why would a plant produce a flower?

• Investigate the stages in the life cycle of a flowering plant. o Students germinate a seed in a clear plastic cup containing cotton wool (a broad bean or mung bean is recommended) o Discuss and view images, or online video, of a seed germinating, growing into a mature plant, flowering, being pollinated, fertilised and the seeds dispersed to produce the next generation.
